Government to Increase Monitoring and Control of Foreigners Coming to Work in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Interior, DPM Sar Kheng, has said that foreigners who wish to come to work in Cambodia will be required to provide and check the authenticity of their passports and work permits first to avoid fraud.

On Monday morning, 19 September, DPM Sar Kheng informed the media that the Royal Government will increase the proper management of checking passports and work permits of foreigners who cross the border into Cambodia for work, to avoid various scams.

"And again, we need to strengthen control of foreigners who come to Cambodia. … They need to come with a valid visa and work permit to work in a company or enterprise in Cambodia to avoid falling into various scams, fraud, torture, and violence!" he said.

The Royal Government is currently taking various measures to crack down on illegal gambling in Cambodia so that it does not develop into other crimes and impact the strengthening of social justice.

DPM Sar Kheng also added that the Ministry will follow the procedures in accordance with the law by controlling places where illegal gambling has taken place, as well as inspecting suspected target locations.

"Our procedure is, as a matter of principle, how we can rescue the victims and then punish those involved and close those illegal businesses," he said.

According to DPM Sar Kheng, the Capital-Provincial Unity Command will be responsible for cracking down on cases within each respective local jurisdiction.

On Sunday, 18 September, the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration issued a press release on the inspection of the Xing Shanting Center (aka Chang Chheng), which saw the detainment of nearly 500 foreigners involved in illegal gambling, detention and torture.
